Celtic V Astana pre thoughts, A Fans View.

After yesterday’s result, we cannot complain at the score line. With the game coming home to Celtic Park on Wednesday, we go into it with a crucial Away goal.

One thing which will be of the highest importance come August the 3rd will be keeping a clean sheet. Astana showed in Kazakhstan that they are no push over and that they are a dab hand at a set piece.

Given that, Ambrose simply cannot start, nor enter the field of play. That is my honest opinion.

As mentioned in the post game blog, O’Connell and Tierney were solid, add in Toure for experience and the left back position is up for grabs to create what will hopefully be a great back 4 for the remainder of the season. My opinion is Lustig should sit in that left back position and add support on the wing to Roberts. Although aging and injury prone, I feel he is our best option and handles the position well when fit.

The midfield I wouldn’t change too much, although often criticised Forest showed he can create and Hassel opponents in recent matches. As did Rogic who isn’t goal shy.

The Gaffer has a few hard choices to make for next Wednesday which not all of the support will agree with. But he is the gaffer for a reason and we place our faith in him.

I do hope he keeps Dembele on for the full match. He plays well and although not having scored yet, he looks hungry and moves well. If he keeps getting subbed his confidence will fade and we all know what that can do to an up and coming striker.

All of this said, I do feel we will win next Wednesday, and with the stands hopefully full, we can be the extra man and create an epic atmosphere which should give shivers to Astana players!

My tickets are in the post and I simply cannot wait. Make sure you have yours and let’s cheer our team on!

Hail Hail.
